In 1971 federal bank examiners closed the Farmers State Bank of Carlock (now a branch of Heartland Bank and Trust). The story is chronicled in a new book of all relevant newspaper clippings from the Daily Pantagraph (and other news sources). A gift from Bonnie Ewins, of rural Carlock, the clippings are a sometimes day by day review of the events surrounding the embezzlement of thousands of dollars by then Bank President Donald Starks. Glen Ewins, Bonnie’s grandfather, was a cashier at the bank from 1912 to 1957. Come read the book, which is located in the History Room at the library.
